May 28th - June 1st 2018
WITH ASH BOND, GABRIELLE PARKER & TOM WOOD
Welcome to our Inversion Immersion. Nestled in the heart of the idyllic Lake District, this dynamic and innovative retreat promises a mix of hardcore handstand training, functional movement geekery, rural escapism and delicious yogic relaxation.
Our schedule is woven around handstand training, yoga, performance flexibility and functional anatomy, with plenty of space for refuelling and R&R in between.
Gabby will be there to deliver her specially formulated technique-driven programme to ensure our inversion socks are most definitely blown right off, with daily handstand classes.
While Ash will offer the yoga practice to complement the highs of the week’s acrobatics; sweet and nurturing sessions are partnered with goal-setting meditation where we nurture the discipline and body awareness that a strong physical practice requires.
And of course it wouldn’t be a HandstandYogi Retreat without a bucket load of geekery. Our daily interactive lectures will be lead by anatomy expert Tom Wood, so students can both embody and pass on the body wisdom that we will learn.
But don’t worry, we train hard but we relax hard too (…there is a hot tub!).
- The Language of Movement
- Handstand Alignment, Anatomy and Cueing
- Injury Prevention & Bullet Proofing Shoulders
- Functional Movement Assessment
- Anatomy of Breathwork
- Handstand Myth Busting
This is a training immersion as much as it is a retreat. All of the classes are of course option, but they are going to so mind-blowingly interesting, you won’t want to miss a single one. Each day will end with an optional activity of snuggling up by the fire, chilling in the hot tub, munching popcorn in front of a movie or walking the 3km to the local pub (just do remember yoga starts at 7am…).
A TYPICAL DAY…

10am-12.30: Handstand Workshop with Gabby
1-4pm: Free time
4-5pm: Anatomy lecture with Tom
5-6pm: Performance Flexibility with Gabby / Restorative with Ash
8.30-10.30pm: Optional activities including a ‘Handstand Myth Busting’ Q&A use of the hot tub and a movie night
Gabby Parker - Handstands
Gabby knows her sh*t. She is the handstanding guru (although would never call herself that); a Paris-trained acrobat she is known for making her students work hard and work intelligently with their own bodies. Gabby will be leading us in both the daily handstand sessions and in the flexibility work. She will use her years of experience working with both professionals and those new to the art of balancing on their hands, to allow us to strive towards our individual goals.
Ash Bond - Yoga
Ash is the hippy-glue that sticks all this handstanding stuff together. Restorative and gentle yoga will be woven in between the training sessions as tools to nurture our energy; to make sure that with all of this wonderfully hardcore training comes a chance to relax and enjoy the beauty of where we are. As a writer, Ash will lead optional journalling sessions to help us document our journey as we take it, step by step. If things get a little overwhelming on this retreat (transformation often is), Ash is the person to find and get a hug from.
Tom Wood - Anatomy
Gabby & Ash have unashamedly hood-winked Prof. Wood into using his exceptionally large brain for our own devious handstanding ends. Tom first met the girls over helping them with the anatomical intricacies of their book and upon realising just how good he was at his job, they refused to let him go. Tom is a qualified Personal Trainer and Soft Tissue Therapist with over 10 years experience in the industry as well as a mentor to other health and fitness professionals. As well as working with HandstandYogi on their trainings, he teaches Soft Tissue therapy at the Massage Training school in Bristol and also teaches Functional Anatomy internationally with the Immaculate Dissection team. His passion is biomechanics and how to help people through his understanding of the human body.
Tom is also one of Bristol’s best-loved massage therapists and will be offering massages on the retreat. We will send you all info on how to book in with Tom nearer the time.
The cottage overlooks a small lake and is surrounded by hills. It is in the centre of the Lake District National Park, an area of incredible beauty. There are many wonderful walks from the cottage including waterfalls, caves, valleys, mountains and rivers. They have a large canoe you can use on the lake and on warm days you can swim in the lake. It is a 500m walk along the lake to our local pub, a 3km walk along the river into the local village of Ambleside, and 3km around the lake into Grasmere.
The Daily Telegraph once referred to this cottage as ‘One of the most mysterious and beautiful of all the Lake District’s traditional cottages’. It is a very special place to stay – standing alone beside a small lake and surrounded by mountains.
The bedrooms themselves are all cosy with beautiful views, and most have their own shower and toilet. We have a selection of ensuite twin and standard (shared bathroom) twin rooms.
Standard Twin £600
Standard Single £690
