5 Day Inversion Immersion - Handstand Training in Idyllic French Chateau

Welcome to our Inversion Immersion. Set amongst the picturesque Cognac vines this dynamic and innovative retreat promises a mix of hardcore handstand training, acroyoga giggles, rural escapism, home-cooked food and delicious yogic relaxation.

Our schedule is woven around handstand training, yoga, performance flexibility, strength, conditioning and acroyoga with plenty of time for refuelling, wine-tasting, exploring the local area and much-needed sunbathing by the pool.

Gabby will be there to deliver her specially formulated technique-driven programme to ensure our inversion socks are most definitely blown right off. Supported by daily flexibility and conditioning classes, these daily handstand sessions are designed to refine and expand your skills. Whether you are new to the upside down or a master at inversions, Gabby will design her classes around where you are. Expect sweat, expect challenge and yes, also expect quite a lot of swearing.

As a complement to the highs of the week’s acrobatics; Ash’s yoga classes will be focussed on nurturing a sense of grounding. These gentle sessions will be partnered with goal-setting meditation where we will begin to encourage the discipline and body awareness that a strong physical practice requires.

This retreat offers 3 delicious meals a day, cooked by our incredible chefs that we will have flown in to support you on this journey. Every evening, after our sit-down dinner, we have a number of activities planned for you. You could choose to simply sip Pineau on the veranda watching the sun set softly over the Cognac vines (not a bad option!), you could join us for a quiz, a very geeky handstand Q&A, marshmallows around the firepit, a trip to the local night market or a ping pong tournament!

This retreat is designed to offer practitioners a home-away-from-home feeling. Like your home, but with a swimming pool, luxurious accommodation and about the best food you’ve ever tasted in your life! A Typical Day

7.30am - 8am: optional silent meditation / journal time in the Yoga Barn

8am - 9am:Morning yoga with Ash

9am - 10am: Breakfast

10.30am - 12.30pm: Handstand Workshop

1pm - 2pm: Lunch

2pm - 3pm: Pool time!

3pm - 4pm: Strength and Conditioning

4pm - 5pm: Performance Flexibility

7pm: Dinner

8.30pm: Every evening there will be a different planned activity:

Monday - Marshmallows and hot chocolate around the fire
Tuesday - Handstand Q&A and Ping pong tournament!
Wednesday - Jonzac night market
Thursday - Handstand quiz with prizes + a last night boogie

Your Teachers

Gabby Parker - Handstands

A hand-to-hand flyer and founder of Bristol Handstands, Gabby has been teaching students how to refine their handstand technique since returning to UK. A Paris-trained acrobat she is known for making her students work hard and work intelligently with their own bodies. Gabby will be leading us in the optional daily handstand sessions. She will use her years of experience working with both professionals and those new to the art of balancing on their hands, to allow us to strive towards our individual goals.

Ash Bond - Yoga

After spending a number of years as a secondary school teacher, Ash turned to yoga as a full time path, one that she has now been following for more than a decade. She has taught and travelled internationally, including five years teaching in Malaysia, China and Thailand and on the Freedom through Movement project in Palestine.  

Believing fully that presence is nurtured beyond the mat, Ash embraces influences from many movement patterns in her yoga teaching: rock climbing, running and freediving are woven into dynamic vinyasa, steady bodywork and peaceful breath-centric restorative practices. Find out more about Ash on flyingmonkeyyoga.org

The Food

Cooked on site by our wonderful chefs, all meals can be catered to your own dietary requirements. Upon booking please do not hesitate to ask if you have any particular foody needs. We can cater for allergies, gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan.

Luxury Dorms with ensuite (4 x singles): £800pp

Cancellation policy

Cancel more than 60 days before 1st day of retreat and receive a refund of 50% of your payment. Less than 60 days and no refund will be possible.

TRAVEL TO AND FROM

On our last retreat, one brave soul cycled all the way from Bristol to Jonzac. If you are willing to make the travel part of your adventure then the train is very much a possibility. If you decide to go by plane, there will be 2 organised pick up and drop off times at the airport on the Monday and Friday. These will be sent out when the deposit has been paid.

BY AIR

Options are to fly into:

Paris (Charles de Gaulle (CDG) or Orly), Bordeaux or even London!

Paris Charles de Gaulle has a TGV (train) station within the airport, and is so much more convenient than Orly airport.

BY CAR

If you have time, renting a car is a lovely way to explore France and will come in handy if wishing to explore in your free time during your stay at PraanaWellness either on Retreat or when using the B&B.

Car hire is available (book online) at Paris airports, Bordeaux airport and Angoulême train station. There are two types of main road: the National Routes (N) and the Péage that are the much quicker toll roads.

BY TRAIN

For trains, we have used this link or here for train timetables and booking (Google says there are many you can book from, though.)

The journey by train from Paris (CDG to Angoulême) is 3h20m. When booking always check the premier (first) class price, as it can sometimes be only a few euros more than second-class. Also, when reserving your seat you may have the choice between an upstairs seat (a better view of the countryside) but a downstairs seat may be better if you have a lot of luggage!

It is even possible to take the train from London (Eurostar changing in Paris for Angoulême) going through the Channel Tunnel.

The best station to arrive at is Jonzac, which is just 15 minutes from our retreat centre.
